This is a rock application of the The Mozambique which was inspired by Steve Gadd. The written hi-hat part can be applied to the ride cymbal, the ride cymbal bell, a cowbell and/or the toms. Number 1 is the main feel inspired by Steve Gadd; numbers 2-9 are variations. Although I have written a quarter note bass drum part, experiment with putting the bass drum in different places in the measure. A samba bass drum ostinato (i.e., a dotted 8th-16th note feel) also sounds excellent.

Also try various hi-hat figures with the left foot, such as quarter notes and upbeat 8ths notes.
