Because I was dealing with loud, intrusive sounds that can be a part of living in an apartment, I did a search for the best headphones -- ones that will block out the most sound. One of the ones that came up was Extreme Isolation Headphones. Wow, the title sounded great, and then I read it blocks out 28-29 decibels. Sweet.
I read further to find out that a fellow drummer had created them! -- A session drummer so that he can concentrate on his drum part in the studio as it creates such a close, connected feeling with what he is playing. Well, my headphones arrived and it's so nice to have them to block out a lot of the noise of apartment living. And the best way to do this is to put on some music. And it does not have to be very loud since the headphones are already blocking out about 29 decibels of external noise. So this is how you can acquire some peace of mind. Not to mention the music sounds great. So those are two purposes for which I use my Extreme Isolation Headphones.
I also have tried them with my new electronic drumkit -- Again, the external sounds are so nicely blocked out, and at the same time I hear such a connected, warm and excellent sound with my kit. When I try putting some other headphones on, the difference is very noticeable - I hear the sound of me hitting the pads so much and a lesser quality sound. With the Extreme Isolation Headphones, I rarely hear that especially at higher volumes.
These will be great for my own practice and for my students when playing and learning.
Also, the headband on the headphones is adjustable, stetchable, comfortable and will fit almost any age. And they do not need to be tight against your head to isolate sound passively because of the ear cushion design. Having hearing protection for your ears is also obviously a good thing to have to save you ears from loud instruments.
Now I'm psyched for trying them for another venture - I will go to my friend's studio and do some recording! My friend did sound and guitar tech work for 3 Doors Down, Misfits and American Hi-Fi, and I sent him the link to Extreme Isolation Headphones and he was very impressed.
