Double Bass Speed, Power, and Keeping the Muscles of the Feet, Ankles & Legs in Shape

Ways to Do it!

1. Calf Raises
On the CD of Colin Bailey's famous Bass Drum Control book, he speaks of these. The calf is the most involved muscle, so it's good to do exercises to strengthen them and keep them loose. Put a hand on a table, and go all the way up on your toes. Colin does two sets of 12, every other day. Take it easy at first.

2. Jogging or Jumping Rope
Did you know Thomas Lang jumps rope? Many drummers have jogged.

3. Using The Futz
4. Playing off the Pedals with Heel Down
5. Free Stroke
