Bernard "Pretty" Purdie

The most recorded drummer of all-time, having played with numerous greats such as Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, James Brown, B.B. King and Miles Davis, Bernard is a groove legend. Today's top groove drummers credit Purdie as an influence, and study his "Purdie Shuffle". Jeff Porcaro's famous "Rosanna" beat was a direct influence from Bernard's stylistic beats on "Home at Last" and "Babylon Sisters" from Steely Dan.

Today you can find Bernard playing with a great NJ/NY-based band called Hudson River Rats with Rob Paparozzi
