Danny playing Schism
"This beat was composed to be a simple accompaniment to Justin's beautiful bass line. Being in a compound time of 12/8 (5/8 + 7/8), the main goal was to let the natural pulse of the melody come through and keep it simple enough to let Maynard's polyrhythmic phrasing in 3 come through unscathed. The transition into the pre-chorus was done with the same intent but was a little more jerky due to the added beat that moved the time into 13/8 (6/8 + 7/8)."

Snare: A power center head on top with a medium or thin snare head on the bottom.
Toms: A clear G2s on top and clear G1s on the bottom
Bass Drums: EQ 3 heads on the batter side and retro screens on the front.
Studio: Tune the toms to the key of the song. Doesn't work to well because all drums have a very limited range that they will resonate and project in, usually it gets close to one of the notes in the dominate triad.
Live: Because 90% of Tools songs are in D, Danny tries to tune them to to D, F, and A when playing live. When tuning a drum to a definite pitch, it is easiest to aim at a whole step below the desired note and then carefully bring it up to it. It also helps tremendously to stretch the head by occasionally pushing down on it firmly with your hand along the way.

Danny then set up his drums into proportions utilizing the circle and square of the New Jerusalem and uttered a short prayer relating to the principles of the ace of swords from the book of Thoth. He then performed a ritual utilizing his new found knowledge of the unicursal hexagram to generate a pattern of movement in space relating to Fuller's vector equilibrium model. The resulting rhythm and gateway summoned a daemon he has contained within "the Lodge" that has been delivering short parables similar to passages within the Book of Lies. Danny recommends as a device of protection and containment a thorough study and utilization of the underlying geometry of the Temple of Solomon for anyone purchasing their next record. Danny has performed with: TOOL, Paul D'Amour, Adam Jones Maynard James, Keenan Justin, Chancellor, Sylvia Massy, Adrian Belew, Les Claypool, Kirk Covington, Jamie Sheriff, Adam Jones, Airiq Anest, Henry Rollins, Pigmy Love Circus, Carole King, and many more.
