3 Doors Down - Drum Parts for "Kryptonite", "Loser", "Duck and Run", and "Be Like That" from The Better Life

There are many lead singers who are also talented drummers. Often times, however, we don't know that the singer is also a drummer, as their role as lead singer overshadows their alternate role. Some examples of successful artists who also sometimes played drums on their album(s) are Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Lenny Kravitz.

Another example is Brad Arnold. The vocalist of 3 Doors Down also skillfully laid down the drum tracks on their quadruple platinum first album entitled The Better Life. Here is a breakdown of the beats on 4 of their major hits. Pay attention to Brad's skillfull hi-hat work, which consists of syncopated, funky openings; some smooth upbeat & downbeat-commenced 5-stroke rolls in 32nd note form (ALA Carter Beauford); and sometimes even variations in duration of the open hi-hat in the same measure. Also notice the gradual additions in the drum parts as the songs progress.
